Where it's found

The mushroom sold in stores comes almost exclusively from cultivation.

It contains beta-glucans, credited with immunomodulatory and antioxidant effects. In animal studies, a diet enriched with fruiting body powder modulated the expression of hepatic genes involved in lipid metabolism and improved insulin sensitivity.
The lipid-lowering effect observed in animals is likely linked to two overlapping mechanisms: beta-glucans, as a soluble fiber, form a gel in the gut that binds bile acids, increasing their excretion and forcing the liver to use cholesterol to synthesize new bile acids; at the same time, king oyster mushrooms contain small amounts of compounds structurally similar to statins, which could theoretically inhibit HMG-CoA reductase.
