HOMA-IR calculator
HOMA-IR estimates insulin resistance from fasting glucose and insulin measured in the same blood sample. Enter your test results and choose the units shown on your lab report.

How we calculate it
Formula: HOMA-IR = glucose (mmol/L) × insulin (µIU/mL) ÷ 22.5. Glucose given in mg/dL is converted to mmol/L (÷ 18.016), and insulin in pmol/L to µIU/mL (÷ 6.945).
This is a mathematical model from 1985 (Matthews et al.), based on a single fasting measurement.
Limitations
- Interpretation thresholds differ between populations and insulin assay methods, and laboratories do not share one common reference range.
- The result depends on the time of day, sleep, stress, recent exercise and illness. A single measurement can be misleading.
- HOMA-IR does not replace a glucose tolerance test (OGTT) or a doctor's assessment and is not used to diagnose diabetes.
