Ochre bracket (Trametes ochracea) is one of the species most commonly mistaken for turkey tail in Europe. The fruiting bodies are thin, with a zoned, finely felted surface in shades of ochre and cinnamon. It grows most often on dead beech and oak wood.
Reliably telling it apart from turkey tail can be difficult macroscopically. Scientifically, T. ochracea remains in the shadow of its relative — there is a single published laboratory study on a fruiting-body extract, but no clinical trials in humans whatsoever.
